Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Refreshed Memories located, and what are the business hours?
Refreshed Memories serves customers from all over the United States, but is based out of the Mid-Ohio valley (Parkersburg, West Virginia/Marietta, Ohio). The studio is not in a location that's accessible to the public; therefore, the majority of customer contact is made via free, individual consultations in the customer's home, place of business, or in another convenient location. By offering these free service consultations, business hours are much more flexible. Customers can call or email any time of day to request an appointment for just about any time of the day.
If you are not within driving distance of the Mid-Ohio valley, you still have some ordering options. Orders can be completed and sent via the internet or US mail. Or, I can make special travel arrangements to your area if necessary. Long distance consultations are usually scheduled between Thursday and Sunday. Depending on distance, travel expenses could apply, so be sure to check the "What's Happening?" page. I try to keep that updated to let you know when I am in different areas of the country.
How do you alter a photo? Does it damage my original?
I wish I had some interesting explanation for this, but the truth is, "it's just technology." All modifications are made on the computer. The original photo is placed on a scanner (similar to a small copy machine), which creates a digital version of your photo that appears on the screen. Modifications are made while your original waits comfortably and safely in a spacious, waterproof, acid-free pouch. It isn't disturbed again until it's returned with your completed order.
Why should I choose you? Lots of people do this type of work.
True. Anyone can buy photo editing software these days. However, this does not mean that everyone can create the professional-quality product you need. My extensive art background, eye for detail, and years of training and experience have proven essential for successful image reconstruction; providing a finished product that looks natural. Edited photos should never look like they've been edited. A restored photo should appear authentic to the time period - it should never look like a cartoon - and most importantly, a completed portrait should resemble the person shown in your original photo. I encourage you to shop around and compare other services and prices. You will choose me for the quality of my work and because I charge significantly less. I'm also honest, fun, and very easy to work with.
What size prints are available for my finished photos?
